Meet Our Team

Scott Donat

Lead Facilitator

Scott was born in Ontario, Canada, in 1963. His childhood was extraordinarily difficult and he was an alcoholic by age 16. For many years, Scott’s world consisted of drinking, drugs, surviving on the street, violence, and crime. In 1986, in a desperate attempt to escape his life, he moved to Florida, got married, and quit drinking. His first exposure to the concept of spiritual growth was in AA, but after five years, he knew that he wanted to expand beyond what AA had to offer.

In 1991, he met Art Sellers and took his first workshop, “Creative Insight Arts”; from that time on, everything in Scott’s life changed. He had found his life’s mission: to use the wisdom gained from his personal challenges to help others break free from their past and enrich their own journeys. For ten years, he assisted and was a co-leader for Art’s workshops. He expanded his service by taking the workshop experience into prisons, and was involved in the Life Management Skills program for first-time offenders. Beginning in 1995, Scott also facilitated at ten men’s gatherings in Florida and three in Alabama.

Although Scott’s passion has been using his insight and wisdom to lead others, he has not neglected to continue his own spiritual development. He learned much about mental illness and the depth and power of the fragile human condition from his wife, Kathryn, who passed in 2009. His two daughters taught him the meaning of unconditional love. He has studied and worked with many local, national, and international spiritual teachers and leaders. Scott has become a hypnotherapist, a reflexologist, practices Native American teachings and rituals, and continues his work as a recovering alcoholic. He is an integral part of The New Way, a progressive spiritual community where diverse individuals come together to spread a vision of world peace and love. So, if you are ready for real change in your life, and if you can put aside your ego and your fears, Scott Donat is willing and able to help you find “The Way Through”. You deserve to do this for yourself, and when you reach the other side; you will be so glad you did.

Martie Cunningham

Lead Facilitator

My calling is to help people who are stuck in life and to show them a way to break through. When someone's creativity is stuck it is our job in this two day workshop to "uncork it". Most of us are stuck in the past and we try to get beyond unresolved issues, only to find that they are continually confronted by them. The workshop’s goal is to help people accept themselves as they are and not try to "fix" the past. Rather, to identify it; learn from it and move on.

My passion is in doing this work is being able to see the light come back to other people's eyes. This workshop began with actors and artists in Paramount studios in Los Angeles, California back in the 1980's. Actors and artists are so visionary, thus ahead of their time, they are misunderstood which only adds to their everyday rejection that they experience both commercially and personally. Sometimes, they get stuck in a role or can't get the emotions up to the surface to play the part. People in every day life get just as stuck with life's journey and we show them how to get unstuck and live for today. This work is for everyone although we choose to not work with teenagers under the age of fifteen as they can't process as adults do. There have been exceptions if the teen is ‘emotionally” mature. My dream is to have this workshop available to as many people as possible.

I have been doing this work since 1992 and still find that it is the key to helping me to be happy and free of negativity.

Nan Peterson

Co-Facilitator

Nan was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. At 19, she moved to Florida. Nan's childhood was filled with alcoholism, co-dependent behavior and general confusion. She made choices and life decisions based on the role models of her parents. She knew there was always a more gentle way to live but was not sure how to find it.

The Way Through Experience workshop was life changing. She was able, in a weekend, to lay down the burden of doubt about her place in this world. That what she had striven to get to; kindness, compassion and respect, were, indeed, already where she was at. The workshop helped Nan begin the new path of spiritual connection in a deeper way.

As a result of the feeling of connection that Nan experienced, she has participated in The Way Through Experience every time it is held. Through the helping of others, is the deeper commitment to herself.

"I know that experiencing this emotional breakthrough weekend is profound and gets to the heart of our burdens. I can't encourage you enough that if you are ready to lay down your baggage, this is the workshop for you! This workshop will change everything."
